Behind the European Commission’s plan to label fossil gas and nuclear power as ‚green‘ (Pressetermin | Online)

REGISTER HERE

Gas and nuclear power will be considered as ‘sustainable’ investments in the EU taxonomy, according to a plan circulated by the European Commission late on 31 December.

This will allow the greenwashing of billions of euros of financing for these activities, despite the high emissions from fossil gas and the radioactive waste produced by nuclear power.

Join speakers representing climate science, consumers and civil society online on 13 January at 10:00 CET for a press conference on the draft plan. We’ll discuss the risks this poses for consumers, financial institutions, and Europe’s claims to climate finance leadership and you’ll have lots of time for questions.

Speakers:

Sébastien Godinot, Senior Economist, WWF European Policy Office
Andreas Hoepner, Professor, Operational Risk, Banking & Finance, University College Dublin
Bryan Coughlan, Sustainable Finance Officer, BEUC – The European Consumer Organisation
