Companies are under increasing pressure to create transparency regarding the carbon footprint of their products. This is driven by legal requirements, rising market demands, and internal corporate sustainability strategies. The CO₂ balance is calculated in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14067 and the GHG Protocol and forms a central basis for climate strategies along the entire value chain.
SKZ responds flexibly to these requirements and offers customers complete and standard-compliant PCF balances based on its more than 20 years of experience in life cycle assessment. “We have many years of experience in creating product carbon footprints and support companies in accurately and efficiently mapping even complex products,” explains Markus Hoffmann, scientist in the field of sustainability at SKZ. Hoffmann is also responsible for the further development of the new online tool.
The SKZ experts take care of all steps involved in PCF creation – from modeling to documentation of results – and provide support for efficient data collection.
For companies that regularly need to assess many product variants, SKZ now also offers a flexible online tool that enables simple, fast, and standard-compliant PCF calculation.
The tool is available in three versions with different scopes of services. They differ in terms of the number of stored data records, number of users, and support options. However, with each version of the tool, users can generate a standard-compliant CO₂ balance sheet and use it directly for communication with customers, suppliers, etc. The tool is based on current life cycle assessment databases and is updated regularly.
The product carbon footprint describes all greenhouse gas emissions of a product – from raw material extraction and production to transport and packaging. The results enable companies to make processes more energy-efficient, use more sustainable materials, and further develop their climate strategy based on facts.
“Our online tool is ideal for companies that want to carry out their own CO₂ accounting – simply, efficiently, and always based on current data sets,” emphasizes Markus Hoffmann. “At the same time, we continue to offer our expertise when customer-specific or complex PCF calculations are required.”
